The Tindharia Landslide - report by Fuzz (Peter Jordan) - 11th January 2012
The slip at Tindharia is more serious than I had thought. It covers a length of over 100 metres immediately below the back of the Tindharia workshops, and has completely taken away the road, and, for about half of that length, the remaining rack is hanging in mid-air. The slip goes down the hill a long way, which will, of course, increase the time taken for rebuilding. The workshops are still in one piece, but both there and in the buildings above, including Pradhan’s restaurant, have serious cracks in their structure. As the landslip occurred in September, four months ago, it is disappointing to note that repairs have not stated. Given the time that it will undoubtedly take to repair this slip, resumption of train services above Rangtong may well have to wait until after the 2012 monsoons. There is another problem a mile further south, where a mini-slip has collapsed a culvert, although this appears to be under active repair.
